Council: Fast-track bldg. permits

TO HASTEN the process of acquiring permits from the Cebu City Government, the Cebu City Council has requested the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to designate a person who will focus on reviewing permits for the preparation of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC).

In his resolution carried unanimously by the Council, Councilor Nestor Archival Sr. said that the IEC is expected to gather thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the world, which will bring Cebu City to the international scene.

The religious event is scheduled on January 24-31, 2016.

The organizers are expecting 15,000 delegates, clergymen, pilgrims and visitors.

"The IEC brings in extraordinary honor as well as economic social benefits to the city hosting it, thus, it is but appropriate for the City of Cebu to extend its support," Archival said.

Archival said that among the major preparations for the venue of the congress are construction works that require various permits from OBO.

It will be held at the soon-to-be completed Eucharistic Pavilion, which is at the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos.

The construction of the EIC venue started early last year.

Archival, in his resolution, wants Engr. Danilo Lim of OBO to handle and concentrate on all the IEC-related applications to fast track the process of acquiring permits for the IEC venue.
