NEGROS Occidental Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez said the Visayan Bloc plans to Aklan as the cruise liner’s home port in Asia.
Benitez, who leads the Visayan Bloc, noted it is part of their efforts in organizing a Special Committee on Visayas Development to ensure the development especially in terms of tourism industry.
He said Visayas has all the tourism potentials especially Boaracay, Cebu and Negros.
That is why they see the importance of government support to further develop the potentials of Visayas, the lawmaker added.
Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores said the Provincial Government of Aklan has signed a memorandum of agreement with Royal Caribbean for the cruise liner’s offshore docking.
Benitez said this is just an initial activity because they will work out with cruise liners around Asia to make Aklan their third home port.
The Visayan Bloc has been holding meetings in their new office at the Penthouse of the Southwing Annex Building of the House of Representatives. (TDE)
