Dredging company faces complaint from BIR

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 here said on Wednesday that it has filed its 13th tax case under the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program.

BIR, in a press statement, said that it has filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Olongapo City against Eco Link Dredging and Development Inc. and its president Genesis Singzon for unlawful pursuit of business.

According to BIR, Eco Link is engaged in dredging activities in the Municipality of San Felipe in Zambales province.

“Upon verification, Eco Link has been found to have violated Section 258 of the Tax Code of 1997 by carrying out a branch office engaged in dredging activities in the Municipality of San Felipe without prior registration with BIR RDO 18 Olongapo City and payment of the required registration fee,” the BIR said in the statement.

Verification from the Municipal Government of San Felipe revealed that the said branch has started its business operation in January 2017, with a P4,000,000 capitalization based on its Securities and Exchange Commission registration, the BIR added.

BIR regional director Jethro Sabariaga said that they will be filing more RATE cases in the coming weeks.
