FOLLOWING the crackdown on illegal gambling of the Police Regional office-Cordillera, at least 10 illegal gamblers were nabbed by authorities during the weekend in the different parts of the region.
The first gambler was caught in the act of tallying number combination of illegal gambling last July 22 in front of a restaurant owned by Grace Manuel Garcia at Sta. Maria, Alfonso Lista after a concerned citizen informed the police of the ongoing transaction of illegal gambling.
The arrested individual was identified as Baldemor Danao Yabad Jr., 60, laborer and a resident of Sitio Bangar, Sta. Maria.
Recovered from Yabad’s possession were gambling paraphernalia and bet money amounting to P822.
In La Trinidad, six gamblers were arrested after they were caught in the act of playing cards at Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet on July 23.
Arrested gamblers were Gener Binbinen Wagtingan, 31, Clint Ceasar Labis Galong, 21, Darryl Angway Pacudan, 18, Crismar Astudillo Dalilis, 27, and Ronald Abakal Palata, 29.
All suspects are resident of Shamolog, Pico, La Trinidad while Keaton Moga Palitog, 35, a resident of Tacarang, Tublay, Benguet.
Confiscated from the suspects are set of playing cards, and bet money amounting to P2,560.
Earlier, three gamblers were arrested in the act of playing card game “lucky nine” at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post.
Arrested gamblers were Seigfred Guma-ad Tel-ew, Jeramil Lupingay Moreno and Joan Jacaban Mangaoang while confiscated items were playing cards, one table, one mono block chair and bet money amounting to P360.
Authorities said the police have intensified their operations against illegal gambling in response to Executive Order 13 by President Rodrigo Duterte while developing a strategy to have a "double-barrel" plan in the crackdown of illegal gambling, which will be similar to the strategy on war on drugs to strengthen campaign against illegal gambling.
