'Huaning' enters PAR

TROPICAL Storm "Huaning" entered the Philippine area of responsibility, on Sunday, July 30, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophisical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the location of the tropical storm as of 11 a.m. Sunday was estimated at 250 kilometers West of Basco, Batanes.

In a weather advisory issued by Pagasa, storm signal number 1 is declared in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Northwestern Cagayan and Babuyan Group of Islands.

Huaning with international name Haitang has maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

Estimated rainfall amount, said Pagasa, is from moderate to heavy within the 500-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm.

Residents of the western section of the Southern and Northern Luzon are alerted against possible landslides and flashfloods.

Tropical storm Gorio, which left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday evening, caused widespread flooding in Metro Manila.

The flooding that has affected the flow of traffic due to flooding in some areas in Metro Manila, prompted government officials to suspend classes and work in government offices. (SunStar Philippines)
