Passenger boat capsizes in Isabela; 3 dead, 53 rescued

AT LEAST three persons drowned and 55 others were rescued after their boat sank in Palanan, Isabela on Sunday, July 30.

Senior Inspector Mariano Manalo, Palanan police chief, identified the fatalities as Joel Tuppil and a certain Dimasalang from Cauayan City, Isabela; and Mylene Silva from Bataan.

Ronald Silva, one of the boat's passengers, was reported missing, Manalo said.

Manalo said the boat's engine failed upon reaching Sitio Divinisa in Barangay Culasi, Palanan and it was hit by strong winds and huge waves, causing the vessel to capsize.

He said the boat was carrying 57 passengers, including six crew members.

Rescuers saved 53 people, including the boat's crewmen.

Search operation is ongoing for the missing person. (SunStar Philippines)
