DA gives irrigation pumps to farmers

SAN SIMON -- In line with the Bottom-Up Budgeting approach, the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT) here awarded shallow tube wells to the four irrigators associations.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) gave eight irrigation pump sets to the irrigator associations of Barangays San Juan, San Jose, Concepcion and Santo Niño on June 17.

As one of the municipalities in the province with agricultural lands, LPRAT prioritized development in its action plan for the year 2014, according to the office of the mayor.

"The acquisition of irrigation pump sets are intended to serve these areas during time that the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) could not supply irrigation water to standing crops, especially from November to December," said LPRAT chairman and municipality Mayor Leonora Wong.

To support the interest of the farmers, which covers almost 80 percent of the labor force, the LPRAT is now focused on the development of irrigation facilities in the town to support its anti-poverty roadmap towards economic development.

The BUB program aims to make the allocation of the national budget more significant by making the working class as priorities.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said in a separate statement that the budget preparations will be guided this time, by needs identified at the grassroots level.

With this, it is expected that the 2016 budget will be people-centric, aimed not just at allocating resources properly, but also reducing poverty substantially.
