Heroes’ welcome set for SEA Games medalists

THE Zamboanga City Government will hold a ceremony on Monday to welcome the seven Zamboangueno athletes who hauled medals in the recently concluded 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Singapore June 5-16.

The ceremony is slated at 8 a.m. Monday during the flag raising ceremony. Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead the City Government officials and employees in feting the athletes for bringing pride and honor not only to the city but to the entire country.

Of the total seven medal haulers, six are gold medalists that include billiards player Chezka Centeno, boxer Eumir Felix Marcial and softball players Sonny Boy Acuna, Orlando Binarao, Emerson Atilano and Vermon Diaz.

Alshamier Ibnohasim is a bronze medalist for his performance in Pencak silat.

The ceremony will be followed by a motorcade around the city’s major thoroughfares.

Salazar will also present to the athletes the ceremonial check representing the incentives due them based on City Ordinance 231.

Under the said ordinance, gold medalists will receive P150,000, silver medalists get P100,000, and bronze medalists are entitled to P75,000 cash incentives. (Bong Garcia)
