'Vegetable seeds' out for Misamis Oriental households

TO CAP its celebration of the Nutrition Month, the Misamis Oriental Provincial Government launched another nutritional project on Wednesday, July 26, that will be beneficial to all barangays in the province.

Girlie Barcenas of the Provincial Nutrition Action Center said that by providing vegetable seeds to all households and orienting citizens about household gardening, it will empower the provincial barangays more so in giving more attention to its nutritional status with the help of its so-called "nutrition scholars."

“Ang atong malnutrition rate diri sa Misamis Oriental mao jud nagka ubos mao nang naningkamot ta nga matagaan jud ug atensyon. (The malnutrition rate in Misamis Oriental really went down that is why we should really work hard to give it more attention),” Barcenas said.

The seeds will be provided for free by the Provincial Government and will be distributed to all the barangays in Misamis Oriental. These will then be given to all households by the barangay nutrition scholars who will also orient them about household gardening.

“Kini atong gihimo to prove nga dili nato kinahanglan ug mugasto jud ta ug dako para maka-afford sa nutritional food. We just have to look sa gawas sa atong balay and naa na didto ang mga nutritious food. (We did this to prove that we do not have to spend much in order to afford nutritional food. We just have to look outside our houses and the nutritious foods are there),” Barcenas said.

The Provincial Nutrition Action Center will monitor the activities held by the barangay nutrition scholars in the whole province. The outstanding barangay nutrition scholar under this project will be awarded by the next Nutrition Month Celebration.
