'Huaning' makes landfall in Taiwan; warning signals lifted

TROPICAL Storm "Huaning" has made landfall in Taiwan on Sunday evening, July 30, the state weather bureau said.

In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the location of the tropical storm was located at 290 kilometers Northwest of Basco, Batanes.

Pagasa also lifted the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Northwestern Cagayan, and Babuyan Group of Islands.

Huaning with international name Haitang has maximum sustained winds of up to 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 120kph.

Estimated rainfall amount, said Pagasa, is from moderate to heavy within the 500-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm.

Residents of the western section of the southern and northern Luzon are alerted against possible landslides and flashfloods.

Tropical storm Gorio, which left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday evening, caused widespread flooding in Metro Manila.

The flooding that has affected the flow of traffic due to flooding in some areas in Metro Manila, prompted government officials to suspend classes and work in government offices. (SunStar Philippines)
