Tell it to SunStar: Teachers not waterproof

WE ask the Department of Education (DepEd) to clarify in a public statement that teachers are not required to report to work during class suspension.

We have been receiving complaints from some teachers in localities which have declared class suspension due to inclement weather. It is really illogical to require teachers to report for work since the work of a teacher is to teach. And if there is no one to teach to, what will she do in the school?

We laud however Dr. Diosdado San Antonio, the DepEd regional director for Calabarzon, where many local government units (LGUs) had declared class suspension days ago. San Antonio, in a Facebook post reiterated that faculty meetings should not be done during the days where classes are suspended.

San Antonio echoed our statement that teachers, after all, will be paying for make-up classes once the number of teaching days have been compromised.

Teachers, just like our students need to be safe in the comfort of our homes in a rainy day. We are not waterproof.-- Benjo Basas, chair, Teachers Dignity Coalition

Pamocor again

The Department of Public Services (DPS) of the Cebu City Government has recently done emergency procurement of the contract to collect the city’s garbage from the Inayawan transfer station to the private landfill in Consolacion.

I almost died laughing when the contract was given to Pasajero Motors Corp. (Pamocor) because I was correct in my prediction. I actually told a friend before this happened that Pamocor will win because it has always been the favored contractor.

Tan-awa ra. Way bidding-bidding. Pagkatoytoy.--Delio Ramayana, Cebu City
