Capitol sets counterpart for Sipalay airport development

THE governor of Negros Occidental on Monday, July 31, said the Provincial Government will give a counterpart fund for the development of the Sipalay City airport.

“The province will provide a counterpart fund for the development of the approach from end to end of the airport so that the planes could use it even during rainy season,” Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said.

Air Juan will start flying to Sipalay City from Cebu and Iloilo on August 2.

Mayor Oscar Montilla Jr. said that Air Juan will accommodate nine passengers per flight with two flights every week on Wednesdays and Sundays for Sipalay to Cebu and vice versa, and during Mondays and Thursdays for Sipalay to Iloilo and vice versa.

Marañon said the opening of Sipalay airport could spur more developments in the south especially in terms of tourism, communication, movement of people.

Flying from Sipalay to Cebu would take 30 minutes at a cost of P2,000 for one-way ticket, and less time for Sipalay to Iloilo flights with less than P2,000 airfare.
