P236,000 in illegal drugs seized in Cebu rehab center raid

AUTHORITIES seized several contraband, including 20 grams of white crystals believed to be shabu, in a raid at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in Kalunasan, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

Chief Insp. Rolan Aliser, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) commander, said that the seized suspected shabu has an estimated Dangerous Drug Board value of P236,000.

He said that the team discovered the “shabu” in an egg tray at the jail’s canteen. No contraband was taken from the cell of alleged drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro.

Aside from illegal drugs, the operatives of PDEU, Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas confiscated P18,800 cash believed to be proceeds from an illegal numbers game known as “swertres,” tally sheets, stubs, and 27 cellular phones, as well as bladed weapons.

PIB Chief Joie Yape Jr. said that the confiscated cell phones will be checked to trace the inmates’ transactions outside the jail.

The money was turned over to jail warden Robert Legaspi. (KAL)
