Ateneo wins RMC Cup girls 13 championship

THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Girl Blue Knights clinched the Girls 13 crown in the 1st Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Football Festival that came to a close on Sunday, July 30, at the Tionko Football Field, Davao City.

The girl Blue Knights stunned twice-to-beat Godarfa-Maco, 3-1, 1-0, in their titular showdown.

JC Agustin struck for two goals to lift Ateneo's win as teammate Yumi Limbungan added one goal in the first game.

The second match ended in a scoreless draw but in the shootout, Samantha Salise converted a goal for Ateneo as their goalkeeper Juliana Del Mundo thwarted Godarfa-Maco strikers from scoring. The latter romped away with the most valuable player award.

Lady Blue Knights coach Celina Simone Jaldon said she did not have much expectation but she instead wanted the team to focus on making sure that they give their best and push themselves to be tougher on the field.

“The win was really a bonus, and seeing the girls' and their parents' happy faces after a good fight. Can't help but be proud of the girls for all their hard work. Some of them were getting tired already on the field but you can see that di parin nawawala yung warrior’s spirit nila,” said Jaldon who was assisted by veteran coach Reynalyn Ravanes.

Jaldon recalled Godarfa-Maco used to beat them in past tournaments and also defeated them during the RMC Cup eliminations.

Jaldon's wards, however, made sure that their losses did spoil their focus.

The team was also composed of Jasmine Cassandra Agustin, Danielle Dela Torre, Isabelle Taojo, Princess Juan, Akia Cayabyab, Jelena Pido, Patrese Cayetano and Mayumi Limbungan.
