BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said latest police records reveal 2,372 suspected drug users have turned themselves into authorities.
“This number maybe an insignificant less than one percent of the city’s population, but we can’t put our guards down. The drug menace is a creeping social challenge that has caused us more problems than we can handle,” the mayor said.
Domogan also said the three city hall employees who were earlier tested positive for drug was cleared.
“These three joined the self-help rehabilitation and consequently, they were able to pass the succeeding drug test,” Domogan said.
Domogan noted the decrease of criminality in the city.
“The monthly trend on focus crimes recorded since July 2015 indicates a starting figure of 388 crimes with an intensified campaign and determination to lower this trend. As of June 30, we are down to 49 crimes recorded,” added the mayor.
Domogan who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council, said despite the petty crimes, the city has always been generally peaceful and have been spared from untoward incidents, threats, hostilities and atrocities resulting from insurgency and terrorism.
Crime clearance efficiency has also improved from 65 to 80 percent, together with crime solution efficiency improving to its present level at 65 percent from 61 percent.
Domogan added that support to the police projects have been extended with the repair of police sub-stations.
“Ongoing are three repair projects with a total cost of 1.75 million and another P3 million is earmarked for 11 projects on line for implementation,” Domogan said. (Maria Elena Catajan)
