Bacolod to adopt DILG drug campaign

THE Provincial Board of Bacolod passed a resolution on Wednesday, August 2, requesting the City Government through the Office of the City Mayor to adopt the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) unified campaign against illegal drugs dubbed as “Rehabinasyon.”

The resolution, authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, stated that just recently, the DILG is calling on all local government units to actively participate in the campaign.

Rehabinasyon is a holistic approach in eliminating the country's drug problem using the full extent of the law, and at the same time putting importance on the rehabilitation of the drug surrenderers.

It is likewise a community-based rehab for drug surrenderers which includes livelihood training, food for work program, agri-based program, sports and spiritual enhancement and re-integration programs, among others.

The DILG has committed to mobilize all LGUs, including the barangays, in the Rehabinasyon campaign whose role is critical in the fight against illegal drugs.

Under the Local Government Code, barangays are mandated to adopt measures towards the prevention and eradication of drug abuse in their locality.

For the Rehabinasyon to succeed, it has to be complemented by the LGUs.

The Rehabinasyon campaign was launched by the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs where the DILG is a member and the DILG Secretary Catalino Cuy is chair of the advocacy cluster composed of 17 agencies. (CNC)
