1K police officers to secure triathlon

THE Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) conducted yesterday a simulation exercise for the Cobra Ironman 70.3 triathlon on Sunday.

They fielded personnel of the LCPO and other law enforcement agencies to their assigned areas.

Supt. Rex Lomente, LCPO deputy city director for operations, said that the officers, particularly the members of the ecurity augmentation team who are not from Lapu-Lapu City, familiarized themselves with their assigned areas.

A total of 1,120 officers from LCPO, Regional Public Safety Battalion 7, Cebu Provincial Police Office, Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines and the City of Lapu-Lapu Auxiliary Force will secure the route for this weekend’s event.

“During the simulation exercise, we walked them through their assigned areas,” said Lomente.

The security personnel will be fielded as early as 4 a.m. this Sunday. They will stay in their assigned areas until 3 p.m.

Lomente asked spectators not to bring backpacks and use clear bags instead.

If there are those who will bring backpacks, Lomente said these will be checked by police officers.

Lomente also advised viewers not to rush to the road whenever they see celebrities. They are also asked not to make bomb jokes.

Also yesterday, 19 security personnel of the different hotels, restaurants, and resorts met with LCPO officials to prepare for the triathlon.

Chief Insp. Junnel Caadlawon, LCPO chief for operations, asked the public to be alert at all times and immediately report to the auhorities suspicious persons or activities.
