THE Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) said the runway will be closed for six hours on August 11 in preparation for its repair.

In a notice posted on its Facebook page, MCIAA said the runway closure, which will start from 2:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., is for the preliminary works in order to commence the second half of its repairs.

It added that the runway repairs are precautionary in nature and are designed to ensure that the best possible level of safety is afforded to the passengers and stakeholders of the airport.

MCIA urged the riding public with flights scheduled on August 11 to get in touch with their preferred or booked airline for any potential change in their travel plans.

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific issued an advisory on Friday, August 4, enjoining their passengers with flights departing Cebu on August 6 to allot ample travel time to the airport.

This is in light of the road closures to and from the MCIA for the Cobra Ironman 70.3 triathlon.

In its travel advisory posted on their website, Cebu Pacific encouraged the public to use the following check-in options to cut the waiting time:

- CEB Mobile Check-in. Download the official Cebu Pacific Mobile App on the App Store or Google Play and tap on the Check-In option. CEB Mobile Check-in is available from seven days to four hours before an international flight and up to one hour before a domestic flight.

- CEB Web Check-in. Visit the Manage Booking section of the Cebu Pacific website ( Web check-in is available from seven days up to four hours before scheduled international flight departure and one hour before a domestic flight.

Cebu Pacific said web or mobile check-in guests still need to show up at check-in counter at least one hour before the flight to present valid travel documents.

Those with check-in luggage can drop these off at the bag drop counter at least 45 minutes before the flight, it added. (Jo Ann Sablad/SunStar Philippines)
