Local destinations to visit this month

KADAYAWAN month is here and other than the line-up of the festival related activities, August is also filled with long weekends, which is a perfect time to go on short vacations for that needed rest and relaxation.

So here’s a rundown of local destinations you might want to visit in the coming holidays.

Baganga, Davao Oriental

After a five to six hour ride from Davao City or two hours ride from Mati City, the municipality of Baganga in Davao Oriental is one of the region’s secret destinations that you do not want to miss. You can tour the municipality’s notable spots in one day with the local motorcycle/habal-habal drivers which can also serve as tour guides.

Some of the best places to see in Baganga are Campawan Curtain Falls, Baganga Sunrise Boulevard, Lake Carolina, Balite Hot Spring and San Victor Island. Best thing is that entrance fees to these spots are mostly free.

Mt. Puting Bato, Samal Island

If you are into some hiking adventure but do not want to travel that far, Mt. Puting Bato in Samal is perfect for you. You can choose between a 30 minute hike in the Tayapok Trail and a 4 hour hike at the Guilon Trail. You can also choose between staying for a couple of hours and camping overnight in the Park at the summit of Puting Bato.

You can also visit nearby beaches after your hike to freshen up and rest after hiking up and down Puting Bato.

Malagos Garden Resort

For those looking for a kid and family friendly getaway, Malagos Garden Resort is another perfect option. Other than their famous Chocolate Museum, the resort also has children’s playground and a butterfly museum which will surely entertain the kids during the long weekend.

They also offer a tour and lunch buffet entrance package or overnight packages for those Dabawenyos who wants some staycation.

Happy Kadayawan in advance! Don’t forget to always follow the rules and always put your safety first.
