Ironman triathlete dies of heart attack

A TRIATHLETE died after suffering cardiac arrest during the swim leg of the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines held on Sunday, August 6, at the Shangri-La's Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Director Supt. Rommel Cabagnot said in a text message sent to SunStar Cebu that the victim was identified as Eric Nadal Mediavillo, 47, from Laguna.

Mediavillo was declared dead on arrival at 8:45 a.m. by Dr. Dexter Daquipa of the Mactan Doctor's Hospital.

This is the second fatality in the Cobra Ironman in Cebu since 2012, when Ramon Igana died during the bike portion of the race.
