Inflation rate in Davao Region slows down

INFLATION rate in Davao Region slowed down to 2.8 percent in June 2017 from 2.9 percent in May 2017.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Davao Region also reported that the inflation rate in June 2017 is much lower to June 2016's 3.4 percent.

Inflation rate of some commodity groups have also slowed down. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels slowed down to 5.5 percent in June 2017 from 6.3 percent in May 2017; alcoholic, beverages, and tobacco is at 4.8 percent from 4.9 percent; furnishing, household equipment, and routine maintenance of the house at 2.6 percent from 2.7 percent; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services at 2 percent from 2.2 percent.

Meanwhile, inflation rate increased for clothing and footwear (4.9 percent in June 2017 from 4.7 percent in May 2017); health (4.5 percent from 4.4 percent); transport (3.5 percent from 2.9 percent); education (2.7 percent from 2.6 percent); food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.9 percent from 1.8 percent); and communication (1.3 percent from 1.2 percent).

Inflation rate for recreation and culture remained at 1.5% in June 2017 from May 2017.

Among the provinces in Davao Region, Davao del Norte had the highest inflation rate at 5.1 percent, followed by Compostela Valle (4 percent), Davao del Sur (1.1 percent), and Davao Oriental (1 percent).
