Part of N. Bacalso closed starting August 8

EXPECT heavy traffic on N. Bacalso Avenue in the next three to four months starting Tuesday, August 8.

A portion of the N. Bacalso Avenue in front of Shopwise will be closed to traffic, as work on the P683-million underpass project starts.

Cebu City Transportation Office operations head Francisco Ouano told SunStar Cebu that according to the advice of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, they will proceed with the closure of the northbound side of the highway by 5 a.m.

Complaints

He said the closure will run for the next three to four months and will be temporarily opened once the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 finishes Phase 2 of the project.

All northbound Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) are directed to right turn to Cabreros St. then to Tagunol St., then to their point of destination.

Private vehicles, on the other hand, can still access the affected area.

Prior to his meeting with DPWH, Osmeña would have wanted to have Phase 2 of the project suspended until the district engineers can reach an agreement with some 100 affected residents, whose livelihood may be disrupted with the construction.

In his news conference, the mayor told reporters that he has received complaints from residents over the construction of a wall in the affected area.

Residents lamented that they were not given a heads up by the DPWH and sought the City’s help.

“They can’t just put up a wall and block off. It’s traumatic for the residents because their livelihood is disrupted abruptly. The project will push through, but don’t do it like that,” Osmeña said.
