Gunmen kill village official cum-mediaman

A VILLAGE official, who is a media volunteer, was killed in a drive-by shooting in a remote area in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Monday, August 7.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) information officer, identified the victim as Rudy Alicaway, 46, of DXPB, an affiliate of the government-run Radyo Pilipinas.

Alicaway is an incumbent councilor (kagawad) of the village of Miligan, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur province.

Galvez said that Alicaway was shot and killed around 1:15 p.m., Sunday, August 6, at Sitio Lopez in the village of Culo, Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Reports said Alicaway was driving a motorcycle on the way home when shot by one of two men who were riding in a motorcycle that tailed the victim.

Further investigation showed that the suspects disembarked and finished off Alicaway, who tried to crawl to safety.

The suspects sped off towards Magsasay Street, Molave while the victim failed to reach alive in the hospital.

Galvez said the victim had just hosted his Sunday radio variety program when the incident occurred. (SunStar Philippines)
