CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government here on Monday, August 7, awarded San Fernando police operatives who arrested foreign nationals skimming an automated telling machine (ATM) at BPI Family Savings Bank in Barangay San Agustin last July 24.
The arrest of suspected ATM skimming syndicate members Nicaraguan Radu Minodor Sandor, Italian Marcu Bogdan, and Romanian Petro Ioan Uveges was led by Santiago, Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin and councilors Ruping Dumlao, Reden Halili, and BJ Lagman.
Mayor Edwin Santiago lauded the local police headed by Police Superintendent Roland Agohob for their honesty and commitment to their duties after they refused to accept a bribe amounting to US$50,000 (P2.5 million) from the suspects, adding it is another major accomplishment of the city police that truly manifests excellent teamwork not only of the Philippine National Police but also of all Fernandinos.
“Saludo ako sa inyo dahil mas pinili ninyong maging matapat sa inyong mga tungkulin at responsibilidad bilang tagapagtaguyod ng kapayapaan at kaayusan sa syudad (I salute you for choosing to be faithful to your duties and responsibilities as peacekeepers in the city),” Santiago said.
The arrest of the suspects also yielded a skimming device, 152 pieces of assorted cloned ATM cards and P339,362.15 in cash.
