Land surveyor shot dead in Calatrava town

A LAND surveyor was shot to death by seven unidentified men in front of his house at Sitio Puting Tubig, Barangay Minautok in Calatrava, Negros Occidental Sunday night.

Calatrava police chief John Joel Batusbatusan identified the fatality as Efraem Gubat, 71.

Police said that Gubat was about to go to bed when the assailants arrived and introduced themselves as members of the Philippine Army, and asked to borrow a kettle.

When Gubat went out, four of the armed men fired at him.

Gubat succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. His family was unharmed.

Police recovered from the scene five fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol and a slug of an unknown firearm.

According to the victim’s family, he had no enemy, Batusbatusan said.

He added that land conflict is being eyed as the motive.
