2 jail guards caught smuggling out P69,000

TWO jail guards are being investigated after they were caught allegedly sneaking P69,000 in cash out of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) after last Tuesday's surprise inspection.

CPDRC Acting Warden Bobby Legaspi said that a male jail guard tried to smuggle P60,000 out of the facility by hiding it in his pocket.

Legaspi said the male jail guard asserted that the cash was his. The guard said that he was going to use the money to buy a motorcycle.

Legaspi said that a female jail guard was also apprehended for hiding P9,000 in her underwear.

He said that after the greyhound operation, they also inspected the jail guards.

"We already requested the Philippine National Police in the region to file cases against them." Legaspi added.

The governor had announced that he was withholding the P10,000 anniversary incentives of CPDRC personnel after illegal drugs and contraband were seized during a search inside the facility last week. (Angel Mae Bellita, USJ-R Intern)
