‘No dogs killed for triathlon’

LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Paz Radaza denied the accusation of a non-profit organization that hundreds of dogs were killed in the City’s impounding area for the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Triathlon last Sunday.

On the day of the triathlon, the Mayari Animal Rescue Organization, Inc. (Maro) posted a statement of an animal rescuer that dogs had been killed for the event.

“Ironman in Philippines means killing hundreds of free roaming dogs, going about their daily lives, finding food to survive after being dumped in the streets by their retarded owners. Killing hundreds so they can have this one day event. Nothing to be proud about,” Maro’s post read.

In the comment section of the post, Maro said that what they posted was not an allegation and that they rescued over 70 dogs from the City’s impounding area in the past.

The post circulated on Facebook.

In a press conference, Radaza said dogs that are held in the impounding area for three days are due for adoption.

“I don’t think that mass killing of dogs happened in the City’s impounding area because we are not practicing that. We even make additional cages for dogs,” she said.

She said it was just emphasized during the event that owners of the dogs should not let their pets stay on the streets because they might cause accidents to the participants of the triathlon. (FMG)
