Davao's budding restaurateur

BEHIND Davao’s food innovation – the crocodile ice cream, is a young entrepreneur, Bianca Garcia Dizon.

This 30-year old young chef entrepreneur is up on the rise and is set to show a blast in the city’s culinary scene with her new business venture (with three business partners) – Pyro.

“I’ve always been interested in the culinary industry. Using resources from my own backyard, my cousin and I started experimenting with ice cream and exotic ice cream. We came up with the world’s first ever crocodile ice cream. It all started from there,” she shared.

Raised from a family of entrepreneurs, Bianca knew from a young age that she also wanted to be an entrepreneur.

But she wants to make her own name, and not just entirely rely on her father's legacy in the city (Philip Dizon, the man behind the Davao Crocodile Park).

She was only 23 when she entered entrepreneurship.

For almost a decade in the industry, Bianca shared that the biggest challenge is coming up with innovative ideas to keep things interesting and updated.

“I get my inspiration from my travels and experiencing different cultures and trying different cuisines. It’s a never ending challenge so persistence is key,” she said.

Being persistent, focused and setting goals for yourself and for your team, she said, are the good characteristics of young businessmen.

“Also, you should learn how to delegate properly and acknowledge achievements from your employees on a regular basis. Being open and having a great relationship with your employees makes it easier to fix and find solutions because there is trust and mutual respect already,” she shared.

Throughout her journey as a businesswoman, Bianca said that the greatest and most important value is being humble, both ups and downs.

She also shared that to keep the passion burning is important to keep the interest and be happy in whatever you do. With passion, she said, comes the persistence and focus to succeed.

“Respect your peers and don’t forget be thankful, always,” she said.

Bianca is also behind the Maragu Chocolate and Riverwalk Grill.
