Quibranza: Vispop 3.0: The campaign continues

THE Visayan songwriting campaign Vispop (Visayan Pop), is getting stronger and louder. It is now on its third year of presenting six of the finest tracks written in Bisaya via song submissions by songwriters from all over. This year’s batch of songs chosen as finalists are Tug ta tug written by Earnest Hope Tinambacan and Jerry Angelo Catarata, LQ (Sige la’g away) written by Adam Neil Corvera, Pangandoy written by John Stephen Cadelina and Irving Ladanan Guazon, Bok Love written by Felipe Anjelo Calinawan and Therese Marie Villarante, Buwag Balik written by Lourdes May Maglinte and Brgy. Blues written by Andy Calope.

First of all, these songs are sure hits. Period. And that is what I find fantastic about the Vispop campaign being what it is and not focusing on the contest aspect. Sure, there is an awards night happening this Friday, June 26, 6 p.m. at SM City Cebu Cinema One (which we all should be at!), but I believe this is rather a celebration for the advancement of modern Bisaya music, not a night of cutthroat competition.

Tug ta tug is trippy, humorous yet effective. LQ (Sige la’g away) is a pop rock track with a hook. Pangandoy is a slow rock love anthem that’s emotionally reaching. Bok Love presents a pop story of love, written in another angle that for sure a lot can relate to. Buwag Balik challenges the status quo of Bisaya music with its RnB treatment and finally, Brgy. Blues is a funk song that is fun and musically appealing.

Go online and check out www.facebook.com/visayanpop for lyric videos of all of this year’s entries. Also, this year will include a Netizens’ Choice award. To join the online voting, simply like Vispop’s Facebook page, and then press “like” or “share” for your favorite songs.

Each “like” on a video posted on the official Vispop Facebook page earns the song one point. Each “share” of the video from the official Vispop Facebook page earns the song two points.

Then finally, if you guys want to be at the show this Friday, tickets are sold for those interested. To score a few seats, send a private message on the Vispop Facebook page for reservations and details.

Stoked for these six songs to hit the radio soon. Cheers!
