Mother, son brutally murdered

A 59-YEAR-OLD woman and her son were attacked by a group of men with shotgun and knives on their way to a farm in Upper Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City, Sunday night, police reported.

Neighbors told the police they heard gunshots at about 9 p.m. When they went out to investigate, they found the bloodied bodies of Novata and Edwin Aringay inside a farmhouse in Barangay Puerto.

Ronillo Ubas, investigator from the Puerto police station, said Aringay had 24 hack wounds and was shot in the chest. Edwin, 32, was also shot in the chest.

He said the attackers fled on the victims’ motorcycle.

Winnie Vidad, 42, a relative, said he suspected that the killings might have something to do with a land dispute that involved the Aringays.

Vidad did not elaborate.
