Biosystems engineers, students to hold summit

AROUND 1,500 agricultural and biosystems engineers and students from all over the country are expected to join the national and international convention and exhibition within this week organized by Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (PSABE).

PSABE will conduct 68th Annual National convention and the 15th International Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Conference and Exhibition within this week at University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Sports and Cultural Center in Barrio Obrero in time for the celebration of the 29th Philippine Agricultural Engineering week.

"The week-long celebration aims to provide the participants with the wealth of insights and innovations, the development and trends of agricultural and biosystems engineering practices and technologies in the areas of farm power and agricultural machineries, post-harvest and agro-processing, renewable energy, agricultural buildings and structures and irrigation, and soil and water conservation and management," engineer Marife Pesino, President of PSABE, said during the city hall flag ceremony Monday, April 23.

Pesino added that through the event they also want to upgrade their professional competencies in line with the practice of their profession in their respective current jobs.

She added they want to emphasize the role of the ABE profession in the agricultural and economic development of the country particularly on the technological solutions to help secure the country's food needs.

"It also aims to showcase the technologies in the market that ABEs developed and being managed through the exhibition and techno forum. It further aims to raise public awareness of the positive contribution of us agricultural biosystem engineers in producing adequate food, safe food, clean water, clean air and sustainable energy," she said.

The event also targets to impart knowledge through plenary and technical paper presentations.

Pecino added that aside from the Filipino ABE practitioners, they also expect participation of the foreign countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Ethiopia.

Yesterday, Pecino officially launched the celebration of 29th the Philippine Agricultural Engineering week.

This year's theme is "Agricultural and biosystems engineers partners in agri fisheries development for a sustainable tomorrow.”
