Kadayawan new highlights

A BIGGER and grander Kadayawan sa Dabaw is set this year with four new events showcasing creativity, merriment and inspiration from the city's eleven tribes.

These events included:

1. Habi Kadayawan -- a Kadayawan-inspired professional fashion competition, which will be held on August 17, at around 5 pm. Winners of this event will take home P100,000, P50,000, P30,000, and P5,000, for the first, second, third prize, respectively and consolation prize.

2. Mugna Kadayawan -- a Kadayawan-inspired doodle competition, which will be staged at Kadayawan Village, Magsaysay Park on August 18. The contest will have two categories: Professional with 20 participants and Student 20 participants. Worth P30,000, P20,000, P10,000, P5,000, P3,000 cash prizes will be given to the first, second, third, finalists, and consolation prize winners in the first category.

Meanwhile, student winners will take home P20,000, P15,000, P10,000, P5,000, and P3,000, for the first, second, third prize, finalists, and consolation.

3. Pitik sa Kadayawan -- a drum beating competition which will be performed by participants in between the floats of the Floral Float Parade on August 20.

Kadayawan spokesperson Generose Tecson said that majority of the participants were also from a separate contest: Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan.

Winners of this contest will take home P200,000, P150,000, P100,000, P50,000, P50,000, P10,000, and P30,000 respectively for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, consolation prize, and deportment award.

4. Kaondayawan/Food Market and Music Nights -- a food street entertainment with 60 food stalls. It will be run from August 17 to 20 from 4 p.m to 1 a.m. at Palma Gil St. (from corner Legaspi St. up to Ponciano Street).

Meanwhile, aside from this new contests, and event, the Tunog sa Kadayawan, and Sayaw Kadayawan which was not done last year was revived this year.

Both events will be held simultaneously in different areas on August 19- Tunog will be held at SM City Davao while the Sayaw will be held at Abreeza Mall at 3 p.m.

Aside from these contests, this year's major Kadayawan highlight is the showcase of Kadayawan Tribal Village at Magsaysay Park which will run from August 14-20.

Visitors from different areas are all welcome to enjoy the King of Festivals and its weeklong activities.
