Over P50,000 worth of shabu seized in Dumaguete

LAW enforcers seized about P53,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, in a raid in Calindagan, Dumaguete City, on Monday, June 22.

A drug pusher, identified as Winefredo Armentano, married, a resident of Purok Orchids at Sitio Canday-ong, Barangay Calindagan, was arrested.

Negros Oriental Philippine National Police Office (Noppo) Chief Inspector Benedick Poblete said that they swooped down Monday morning on Armentano's house and recovered from the suspect five “bultos” (street slang for large volume of narcotic substance) and five other smaller plastic sachets of shabu weighing more or less 45 grams.

He said the search was conducted following a tip from an informant, who revealed that Armentano can dispose at least P100,000 worth of shabu not in Dumaguete but in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, where he is reported to be the distributor.

Armentano denied ownership of the confiscated illegal drugs but admitted that authorities recovered shabu inside his residence.

The search Monday was conducted by Noppo, together with operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, the National Bureau of Investigation, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. (PNA)
