THE Davao City Government is set to release guidelines for poultry owners this week on the heels of the bird flu outbreak in San Luis Pampanga last August 11 that killed thousands of poultry.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in an interview at the NCCC Mall Thursday, August 17, said they are currently crafting an advisory coming from the City Veterinarian's Office (CVO), City Health Office and City Agriculturist Office.
"There will be an advisory coming from the city veterinarian so is the city agriculturist office and the city health office with regard to the guidelines for the public," she said.
She added that based on their monitoring the influenza outbreak in Pampanga was contained.
"So far in our monitoring the problem has been contained in Pampanga but of course we have preparations on what to do, enclosed to the guidelines," she said.
The CVO scheduled a city-wide poultry surveillance with the Department of Agriculture-Davao.
Based on reports, some 37,000 birds have died from avian influenza subtype H5 in what has been declared as the first bird flu outbreak in the country.
The deaths were recorded in six farms in rural San Luis town. The town is mainly an agricultural municipality with poultry and livestock raising as other major industries.
A one-kilometer radius quarantine area was imposed around the farms affected with orders to cull all chicken, ducks, quail, and even game fowl. A seven-kilometer radius around San Luis town was also designated as controlled area where no poultry products would be allowed to move out for shipment.
