A notice from Rancho Palos Verdes Golf. The club will be open on August 21 and 28 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some of you may be wondering, “Aahhh, errr, okay. Noted.” FYI, if you check your calendar, those dates fall on a Monday. And usually, on Mondays, Rancho Palos Verdes Golf is closed. Okay? And now you are probably thinking, “Ahhh, okay. Noted!” Good to know.

PGT/PGTA.

By the way, did you know that there is a new golf tour in Asia? The existing Philippine Golf Tour, or PGT, has now a PGTA that stands for Philippine Golf Tour Asia.

The qualifying rounds were held at Luisita Golf on August 9 to 12.

According to news I read, the top 80 players after 36 holes advanced to the final two rounds. And the top 60 plus ties after the final round will gain their tour cards for this new golf circuit. For those who made it, congratulations!

There will be eight legs. The first seven legs have a $100,000 purse, or total prize money while the 8th leg has a $300,000 purse. And in the succeeding years, the purse will increase. The thoughts I have right now are with the Davao pros and caddies, especially the junior players. Work hard on your golf game, my brothers and nephews. I hope we flood the PGTA list with Dabawenyos. They pay you dollars! And you do not have to travel abroad to earn dollars!

To Mr. Enrique Razon of ICTSI, thank you very much for this opportunity.

To our local clubs, please consider being more accommodating to our local pros and caddies so that they can reach their dream of becoming Asian touring pros for starters. Who knows, some might end up in other international tours like the PGA Tour of America.

So, at the moment, the first leg of the PGTA is ongoing. It is the Aboitiz Invitational Open being held at Manila Southwoods, and today is the final round. As of yesterday morning before 10 a.m., Miguel Tabuena had the lead with 17. Angelo Que was at 14. Elmer Salvador was at 12. Tony Lascunaand Micah Shin were at 8. Jay Bayron was at 7. Good luck to our local pros!

Lastly, results of the PGA Championship last week. Justin Thomas is the champion. Tied for 2nd place are Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, and Louis Oosthuizen. Tied for 5th place are Rickie Fowler and Hideki Matsuyama. Tied for 7th place are Graham DeLaet and Kevin Kisner. Tied for 9th place are Jordan L Smith, Matt Kuchar, Jason Day and Chris Stroud.

Happy Kadayawan everyone!
