2 quarantine officers deployed in Bacolod port

TWO quarantine officers from the Veterinary Quarantine Services of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Regional Office in Western Visayas were deployed to the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port to monitor the entry of poultry products in Bacolod City.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, on Thursday, August 17, said the quarantine officers arrived Wednesday, August 16.

City Veterinarian Ma. Agueda de la Torre had earlier said incoming vessels from Manila could possibly be carrying chickens or eggs prohibited from being transported from Luzon in the wake of the bird flu outbreak in Pampanga.

Pineda said the quarantine officers will automatically burn or dispose the products within the Bredco port.

He added that the City Veterinary Office is also conducting an inspection to various poultry farms in Bacolod.
