PDEA: 3 villages in Bacolod declared drug-free

THREE of the 61 villages in Bacolod City have been declared free from illegal drugs during the third quarter meeting of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) held Thursday.

Drug-cleared are Barangays 5, 24, and 41.

Under Dangerous Drug Board Regulation 3, Series of 2017, these barangays were validated and certified by the oversight committee headed by lawyer Roselyn Borja, acting director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-18 and attested by the Cadac through the initial assessment of police and other lead government agencies.

Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said yesterday there is a five percent reduction in drug operations in the city with the declaration of the three drug-cleared barangays.

The drug affectation also reduced by 95 percent from the previous 100 percent.

“It means that there are no drug personalities and no drug operations in

the three villages,” Wanky said.

He added that he is expecting the villages of Felisa, Cabug and Alangilan to also be declared free from illegal drugs at the end of the month.

With the addition of three barangays in the city, Negros Island has now 25 drug-cleared villages, four of which are in Bago City; Valladolid, 7; and Pulupandan, 5 in Negros Occidental; Bayawan City, 3; and Dumaguete City, 3 in Negros Oriental.

Meanwhile, Wanky said a team from the Department of Health in Region 6 will arrive in the city on August 25 to assess the performance of the city’s community-based drug rehabilitation program.

“The team will evaluate if there is still something to improve on the program,” Wanky added.
