Grab to sign pact with Highway Patrol

GRAB, the Southeast Asia's leading ride-hailing platform, said that it is upbeat in working with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Davao in addressing street crimes and promote road safety among their drivers.

In Friday’s press conference, Grab Philippines Country Head Brian Cu said that they are now in the process of talking with the HPG Davao officers in the implementation of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed last month with the PNP-HPG in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The two organizations collaborated to answer the call in combating the criminalities by working hand in hand since drivers are more often on the streets. They can be utilized in information gathering for a more timely response of the authorities.

"This agreement is about Grab's continuing commitment to provide safe and secure transportation to our passengers and partner drivers," Cu said. "And now, we want to start this partnership in Davao City.”

He also expressed his gratitude to the PNP-HPG for their willingness to train their drivers to fight criminalities.

Under the terms of the agreement, the HPG-PNP shall provide Grab drivers with trainings on Road Safety and Courtesy, as well as Anti-Carnapping and Anti-Highway Robbery and relevant Anti-Criminality orientation seminars.

It also includes provision of technical support in areas of Anti-criminality, such as highway, robbery and among others.

"We are grateful to the HPG-PNP for this partnership that will not only enhance our partner drivers' training on road safety and courtesy, but it also provides us the means to contribute substantially in the anti-criminality drive of the government," Cu said.

The MOA was signed by HPG Director Police Senior Superintendent Antonio Gardiola Jr., deputy director for Operations Senior Superintendent Marlon Madrid, deputy chief for Operation Police Director General Fernando Mendez, and deputy director for Administration Senior Superintendent Ulysses Caton.

For Grab, present were Cu, Grab Public Affairs Head Leo Emmanuel Gonzales, and the Driver Services and Communities head Arnold Wayne Jacinto.

Meanwhile, Gonzales said that they are already considering to bring Grab car in the city. But they still have to study whether there will be a demand for it.
