‘CH lacks emergency exits’

THE lack of emergency exits in Mandaue City Hall was one of the deficiencies that officials found out after the bomb simulation exercise yesterday.

The drill, conducted by the City Government in partnership with the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was part of the activities lined up for the 48th Charter Day celebration of the city.

Councilor Carmelino Del Mar Jr., executive chairman of this year’s Charter Day celebration, said they will recommend to the Office of the City Mayor to establish additional emergency exits inside City Hall.

He said employees had difficulty going outside City Hall fast after an improvised bomb exploded outside the building.

After the explosion, the Mandaue City Police Office placed a yellow police line at the City Hall grounds, while roads leading to the area were ordered closed.
The bomb simulation exercise started past 1 p.m. and ended around 3 p.m.

“We plan to have a disaster preparedness simulation every year,” Del Mar said. (FMG)
