Taxi driver robbed, killed in Baguio City

JUST as more than 400 new police officers took their oath Thursday, robbers struck hard anew killing a taxi driver while carting away still unaccounted amount of cash.

Cab driver Angel Umali Sarmiento, married, residing in Pines Park, La Trinidad, Benguet, died after suffering several stabbed wounds when he was held up by still unidentified robbers around 1 .a.m. Friday, August 18, at Mulberry Alley, Km.4 Asin Road, Baguio City.

Elmer De Guzman, a resident of the area, told investigators he was at their house when he heard a blowing of horn and loud sound emanating from the road.

De Guzman said he peeped outside their window and saw the commotion inside the taxi that was parked on the side of the road.

De Guzman shouted for help to their neighbors which alarmed the suspects and fled on foot towards the dumpsite area.

Police officers arrived at the site and found the bloodied victim sprawled on the ground.

Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators.

The incident happened a day after some 494 police recruits took their oath administered by Police Regional Office–Cordillera director Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona at Camp Bado, Dangwa, in La Trinidad, Benguet.
