Oro falls to 10th most competitive cities in PH

CAGAYAN de Oro has fallen short in garnering high marks for this year's national search for competitive cities, ranking 10th in the highly urbanized city category, three notches down from last year’s 7th place.

This year’s ranking was announced during the 5th Regional Competitiveness Summit on Wednesday, August 16, at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) of the Philippines.

Cagayan de Oro, however, is one of the two cities outside Metro Manila to make it to the top 10.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s home city placed 3rd after Quezon City and Manila City.

Cagayan de Oro City ranked 15th on the economic dynamism subcategory, 16th in government efficiency, 5th in infrastructure, and 22nd resiliency.

On the other hand, the provinces of Bukidnon and Camiguin ranked 9th and 10th, respectively, in the most competitive provinces all over the country.

Last year, Cagayan de Oro was 7th in the highly-urbanized category, 13th in economic dynamism, 6th in government efficiency, and 10th in infrastructure.

Quezon City topped the ranking, followed by Manila, Davao, Pasay, Makati, Pasig, Taguig, Paranaque, Caloocan, and Cagayan de Oro.

City mayor Oscar Moreno has been invited to share the City Government’s innovations, particularly in its e-payment system, as a way in making services more accessible to the people during the gathering at the PICC last August 16.

With the e-payment system, residents and businesses can pay their bills, such as business permit, real property tax, traffic citation, market stall rental, sales tax, transfer tax, and city building fees through the Globe-Cash Mobile Services and by dialing *137# on their phones.
