Vet: NegOcc has enough supply of eggs, chicken

NEGROS Occidental still has sufficient supply of eggs and chicken in the wake of the ban on shipment of poultry products from Luzon after the bird flu outbreak in San Luis town, Pampanga last week.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said Friday they constantly monitor the market, and has tapped major poultry producer Ta-ala Farms which has approximately have 57,000 excess eggs.

He added that egg supply from Bantayan Island is also coming to the province.

Decena also said the price of eggs in Negros Occidental is still stable although there is P1 difference in the current price in the Sixth District which is far from the poultry farms located in northern Negros.

Traders in Panay are now using their buffer stock and the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas has called for an emergency meeting as they are expecting a shortage of supply in the coming days.
