Businessman survives gun attack

A BUSINESSMAN survived a gun attack by gunmen onboard a motorcycle in the nearby province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said Mark Sallegue, 44, a businessman, was shot and wounded around 1:30 p.m. Monday in front of a church in Barangay Poblacion, Ipil.

Sallegue was driving his vehicle on the way to a government-owned banking institution coming from a private bank when the suspects blocked his path and opened fire, said Samuddin.

Samuddin said the victim, who was hit in the hand, managed to flee to his residence, prompting the suspects, who were armed with a caliber .45 pistol and an M 16 Armalite rifle, to sped off aboard a motorcycle without a plate number.

The victim later proceeded to a hospital and sought medical attention, while the police of Ipil town are investigating the case. (Bong Garcia)
