Officials prove Pampanga chicken safe to eat

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Third District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. and City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago on Friday led officials and Fernandinos in a community boodle fight in Barangay Panipuan in this city to prove that chicken and fowls from Pampanga are safe to eat.

Dubbed “Abe, Ali ka migaganaka (Friend, don’t worry) Pampanga chicken is safe,” the brunch of chicken and egg adobo with rice was held simultaneously with other boodle fights in Lubao town and Angeles City to show to the country that chicken and other fowls here are safe for human consumption.

It was also meant to dispel the bird flu phobia plaguing the province it broke out in several farms in San Luis town.

“We want to drive the point that chicken and other fowls in San Fernando are safe. Our anti-bird flu task force has been monitoring the situation and are strictly checking the quality of chicken sold in our markets,” Santiago said.

Earlier, chicken retailers and vendors’ groups appealed to the city government to cushion the effects of the avian flu scare, as their sales started dropping immediately after the outbreak was announced by Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol weeks ago.

“Chicken here is safe to eat, as long as it is cooked well and hygienic practices are observed, that is our assurance to Fernandinos and our kabalens,” Santiago said. (JTD)
