City to use new traffic scheme during Carnival Street Dance

THE Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) will be implementing a temporary traffic scheme today, August 20, 2017, in view of the holding of the Cagayan de Oro Carnival Street Dance at 2 in the afternoon at the Rodelsa Circle.

Motorists are advised to cooperate and observe the traffic scheme.

The street dance will start at the corner of RN Abejuela Street and proceed to Velez Street and will end at the Rodelsa Circle.

The RTA will close Velez Street, but only the part along Cruz Taal Street and Rodelsa Circle, T. Chaves St., Hayes St., San Agustin St., and Fernandez St., will also be closed.

All affected Public Utility Jeepneys and private vehicles are advised to utilize secondary streets.

Aside from the road closure, the traffic department will also implement a temporary ‘no parking policy' for all types of vehicles along the parade route.

For private motorists, all are advised to take any passable road in the city, as well as to possibly take the farthest route to avoid a possible grid lock while the parade is going on.

According to Engineer Nonito Oclarit, RTA assistant department head said normal vehicular traffic will immediately resume as soon as the parade route will be cleared.

Oclarit urged the public to call RTA hotlines: 882841 and 090941092 for emergency and traffic-related concerns.

Authorities are reminding the public to bring pertinent documents or identification cards during the parade and to show these to security personnel when challenged.

Everyone is also urged to report suspicious characters or items, while bomb jokes will not be tolerated during the parade.

Deadly weapons, backpacks and ball caps will be prohibited during the parade as well as the use of umbrellas. Spectators are also discouraged from bringing children and vehicles.

The no smoking policy will also be strictly implemented, and that vendors are not allowed along the parade rout.

Drones are not allowed during the parade, except accredited by the fiesta committee.

According to Task Force Oro commander Colonel Royland Orquia, a big number of soldiers and police will be deployed to secure the parade.
