Drug suspect killed in PDEA buy-bust

A suspected drug pusher was killed in a buy- bust by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 in Sitio Mabuhay, Barangay Luz, Cebu City last Friday evening. Agents shot Eddie Apura after he allegedly tried to pull out his caliber .45 pistol during his arrest. He reportedly sold a pack of shabu to a PDEA 7 decoy. Recovered from his possession were a caliber .45 loaded with seven live bullets, drug- sniffing paraphernalia and shabu worth P25,300. Apura was the sixth person killed in PDEA 7 operations this month. (JOB)

Caloocan incident an isolated case

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria assured the public that the incident in Caloocan City where a 17-year- old boy was killed by the police is an isolated case. “It will not happen here in Cebu City. We conduct briefings with our station commanders before every operation sa kung anong dapat at hindi dapat,” Doria said. CCPO conducts Oplan Pokemon or One Time Big Time where most minors are rescued from suspected drug pushers. He advised parents to monitor their children regularly. (JOB)

Two-day Marian congress held in Cebu City

A two-day Marian Congress, organized by Human Life International Pilipinas and sponsored by the Sangguniang Laiko Ng Pilipinas, was held in Cebu City last Aug. 18 and 19. The event focused on remembering and revisiting all the Virgin Mary’s messages from May 1910 to October 1910 and its application to our lives today, said Dr. Rene Josef Bullecer. “All the plans of God--those challenges will be minimized if people pray the rosary every day. That is why we are here--to inspire people, to challenge them, and ignite them,” he said. (JOB)

Salisi gang members hit Korean tourists

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Chief Supt. Jose Espino urged the public to contact the authorities if they see members of the Salisi Gang who victimize Korean nationals. Espino said that gang members frequent Korean businesses in Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City. “They are asking for our assistance in arresting this man. He was captured in the CCTV cameras,” Espino said. Korean Consul Joseph Shin, who visited Espino, said it’s summer in Korea that’s why more tourists are bound to visit the Philippines. (JOB)

3 men, a minor arrested in Lapu drug bust

Three adults and a minor, who are all in the watch list, were arrested in a buy-bust in Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday dawn. Lapu-Lapu Police Station 4 caught Jose Vincent “Sadam” Jumao-as, 26, and his 15-year- old cousin. Also arrested were Elmer Aton Lawas, 28, and Elvin Sumalinog Aton Jr., 28, in Sitio Marbeach, Barangay Marigondon at 2:15 a.m. Jumao-as is a high value target 2 and was ranked third in the list. Twenty- eight sachets of shabu worth P5,600 were recovered from the suspects, who are now detained. (FMG)
