City Hall awards top taxpayers

FROM being seventh place last year, Advent Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz-Power, was named as the top business in the awarding of the Top 25 Taxpayers of Lapu-Lapu City last Friday night.

Lapu-Lapu Mayor Paz Radaza said the Taxpayers' Night is the city's way of expressing appreciation to the companies for their contribution to the city.

"We want to recognize and honor all of you (taxpa yers) who are the prime movers of our beloved City. For without you, our City will not be what it is today. Your contributions have come a long way," Radaza said.

Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu received the Datu Lapu-Lapu Award. It also received the special award last year for being the number one taxpayer in nine consecutive years.

The top two to 10 taxpayers were LEAR Automotive Phils. Inc., Taiyo Yuden (Phils.) Corp., JPark, General Milling Corp., Filinvest Group of Companies/ Filinvest Land Inc., Muramoto Audio-Visual Phils. Inc., Fairchild Semiconductor (Phils.) HongKong, Oikonomos Int'l Resources Corp. (Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu) and Super Metro Gaisano -Lapu-Lapu.

The top 11 to 20 taxpayers were Taipan Development Inc. (Gaisano Island Mactan Mall), J.S. Unitrade Merchandise Inc., Plantation Bay Holdings Corp., Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Far East Noble House Inc. (Gaisano Grand Mall Mactan), GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp., Freemont Food Corp.-Jollibee, Megaworld Corp., Waterfront Airport Hotel & Casino Inc., Draka Phils. Inc. and Timex Philippines, Inc.

Businesses that landed on 21st and 25th place were NKC Mfg. Philippines Corp., Pueblo de Oro Development Corp., Robinsons Land Corp., Cesar's Foodland Inc. and Prohomes Development Inc.

The event was held at the Hoopsdome in Barangay Gun-ob.

The City Government also awarded achievers of Lapu-Lapu namely Brylle Gilbuena of Barangay Gun-ob (Top 1 of March 2017 Mechanical Engineering Board Exam), Nona Casey Baring of Barangay Pajo (Top 2 of June 2017 Nursing Licensure Examination), Vianca Pearl Amores of Barangay Bankal and Marianito Jesus del Rio (both Top 1 of May 2017 CPA Board Examination).

After a resolution granting them cash incentive was approved by the City Council, Gilbuena, Amores and del Rio were given P100,000 each while Baring received P90,000. (FMG)
