Mabalacat mayor airs support to poultry industry

MABALACAT CITY -- Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has expressed support to the poultry industry which was severely affected by the bird flu virus in San Luis town some 50 kilometers away from this city.

To signify his support to the city’s business community, Garbo led a ceremonial boodle fight at a fast food chain which serves grilled chicken here over the weekend.

“We would like to show our support to the business sector especially those engaged in supply of chicken meat and eggs. Our poultry products here in Mabalacat City are safe for human consumption,” Garbo said.

City Administrator Rosano Paquia said that the City Veterinary’s Office, together with the local police, was tasked to set up checkpoints to monitor the entry of poultry products in the city.

“However, we would like to allay the fear of the public. Chicken meat is safe to eat for as long as it does not come from Avian Flu-contaminated areas,” Paquia added.

Governor Lilia Pineda earlier directed all city mayors in Pampanga to support the Provincial Government’s campaign to bring back the lucrativeness of the multi-billion poultry industry in the province.

Vice Mayor Christian Halili, Councilors Rox Peña and Dan Bayani were also present during the boodlefight.
