MALACAÑANG on Monday acknowledged the perseverance of the Philippine team to make a “good harvest of medals” in the 29th Southeast Asian Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the Philippine government was pleased by the Filipino athletes' dedication to bring honor to the country, especially now that the Philippines has earned “three gold medals, four silver medals, and four bronze medals.”
“The week starts with a good harvest of medals for the Philippines,” Abella said in a statement. “We now have three gold medals, four silver medals, and four bronze medals.”
Mary Joy Tabal delivered her promise to bag the country’s first gold medal when she topped the women’s marathon event.
The Philippines also won its second and third gold medals on Monday morning after Nikko Huelgas and Marion Kim Mangrobang respectively ruled men’s and women’s triathlon.
Huelgas was followed by his compatriot John Chicano who won the silver medal. It was a similar 1-2 finish for the women’s triathlon after Claire Adorna, also a representative from the Philippines, bagged the silver medal.
