Apalit Joins CBCP's Year of the Poor

APALIT -- The fiesta executive committee here joins the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Year of the Poor for this year's town fiesta.

With its theme "Apung Iru: Fulfilling His Mission in his Fight for the Poor", the fiesta committee here together with the local government, continues to reach out to indigent people by attending to their medical needs.

Together with the Kapampangan Lions Club International Foundation, Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF), Care for the Sick, Elderly, Lost, Dying and the Dead (CSELDD), Rural Health Units (RHUs) and Sangguniang Barangay (SB) members, the Fiesta Executive Committee 2015 sponsored a medical, dental and optical mission here yesterday.

"Target natin dito yung mga indigent people dahil sila talaga yung may pinaka may kailangan nito," said SB secretary Glenn Danting.

"Our goal here is to involve the community from all walks of life para sa iisang mithiin, to break the chain of indifference," he stressed.

They also provided proper eyeglasses and medicines to those in need.

The committee stated that the program they organized the program instead of the usual entertainment-based programs to put balance on the content of the fiesta.

"We did this to add meaning to the fiesta of Apung Iru. We want to express that the fiesta is not just about joy, fun and entertainment, it's also being with the community," Danting said.

The group also initiated a Night of Song and Prayer where they sang religious songs for the poor.

A job fair was also conducted to help the Apalitenos, especially the youth, to be productive.
